Region 7: South Dallas County

South Dallas County is filled with "satellite cities" surrounding Dallas Downtown. The economies of all are dependent on Dallas' strength since most residents work for Dallas based companies and commute to work in Dallas. These little-known communities offer great bargains for home buyers who want larger lots and new developments.

The Mesquite Rodeo

Cockrell Hill, Cedar Hill, Duncanville and Desoto are all southwest of Dallas and are situated in rolling terrain with thick vegetation, mostly cedar and oak. The bluebonnets are in full bloom all along the roads in the spring. The homes in this area range from about $112,000 to $250,000.

Lancaster, Wilmer, Hutchins, and Balch Springs are also southeast of Dallas, but are still smaller, more rural towns. You can find wonderful homes in the price range of the low $100s to the mid $200s.

Mesquite home of the Mesquite Rodeo, is a town of about 130,000 people. It is southeast of Dallas. Moderate to medium priced homes are under construction here. At a starting price between $118,000 to $220,000, there's a home for everyone.

Forney is a booming area of "ranchette" homes on 2-5 acres. Located in Kaufman County, on the border with Dallas County, it's reached by traveling through Mesquite. Homes start in the low $100s and reach upwards of 3 million.
